Los Angeles River is a 48-mile-long concrete waterway built in 1938 to control flooding in the Los Angeles Basin. An unfortunate result of this effective but hideous structure is a massive loss of habitat and wildlife.
I designed a brand identity including a logo and a wayfinding system for Los Angeles River. Friends of the Los Angeles River is a non-profit organization dedicated to revitalizing the river. They wanted a system that would draw visitors to Los Angeles River and engage them to appreciate the reclamation of wildlife habitat.
I created a logo that would accentuate, not overpower, the beautiful backdrop of the river. I also designed a signage system of welded steel gates customized to each region of the river and informational posts to garner interest in the local wildlife.
